Intro to Disability in the Classroom

This training provides understanding and strategies to school leaders, teachers, and education support workers in supporting young people with disabilities in mainstream and specialist classrooms. This presentation focuses on:

  • Providing a general overview of the most common disabilities within the school environment,
  • Understanding how some disabilities may influence how individuals learn, communicate, and socialise 
  • Strategies to support the holistic needs of each student whilst teaching to the group

Participants will be provided with the understanding, skills, and strategies to supporting children and young people with a disability within the learning environment.

Disability in the Classroom Masterclass

This masterclass provides an in-depth look at common disability diagnoses seen in mainstream and specialist classrooms for teachers, school aides, school leaders and school allied health staff. This 6-hour day focuses on: 

  • Lesser-known facts and misconceptions about certain diagnoses such as autism, intellectual disability, ADHD, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Deep dive coaching, workshops and case studies  on supporting high-needs students within the school environment
  • Strategies to facilitate effective and efficient care team support and communication

Recommended for those with an existing basic understanding of disability and diagnoses such as autism and intellectual disability. 


Functional Behaviour Assessment and Behaviour Support Planning

This six-hour training provides instruction on conducting functional behaviour assessments for beginners. Participants will be provided with the following skills and understanding:

  • Knowledge of the basic functions of adverse behaviour from the child's perspective
  • The purpose of data collection 
  • How to set up a data collection system and utilise data to inform assessment and monitor progress
  • How to utilise FBAs to develop a targeted individualised behaviour support plan 

Recommended for teachers, school-based allied health workers, school leaders, support workers, and beginner behavioural practitioners

Functional Behaviour Assessment for Complex Clients

Designed for behaviour support clinicians, allied health professionals and those seeking BCBA experience and qualification, this six-hour workshop provides:

  • An overview of what makes certain clients with a disability 'complex', such as histories of trauma, contact with the criminal justice system, and severe behaviours of concern 
  • In-depth tutorial on how to conduct a holistic functional behaviour assessment (FBA) and behaviour support plan (BSP) that takes into account individual histories and dynamic risk factors
  •  Strategies to manage communication, goals and outcome amongst large care teams

Recommended for those with knowledge  of and experience with basic behaviour analytic principles
